Falling for Velvet

If you can buy only one new thing to wear this fall, it’s velvet.

MC Hammer Jeans

Levi’s calls these barrel jeans but I call them MC Hammer jeans. They’re funky in that perfect 80’s way that I love with all my heart! READ POST

Transitional Dressing

We’re drinking spiced lattes and getting ready for Halloween but truthfully, the weather in LA has been too warm to break out the sweaters. When it comes to colder seasons, our transitions seem slow and subtle. One trick for transitional dressing is to layer summer dresses over tops and jeans. It’s been too warm to layer this pretty dress over a turtleneck (what I’ll do when the temperature dips below 70). But I love the look of it over my favorite skinny jeans! Just have to say that these high waisted jeans hug in all the right places. Plus the exaggerated busted knees give every outfit a little edge. I’m coveting this amazing dark wash to wear with comfy turtlenecks this fall!

Marigold and Petal Pink

H&M Top | J. Crew Skirt | Ray-Ban Oval Sunglasses
Staud Moreau Bucket Bag | Vince Pumps (similar, save)

I love trying new color combinations. Pink and marigold together reminds me of the soft edges of a sunset. Because the season is fall, I added accessories in rich saddle and wine. You already know how much I love this bucket bag (review here) but I have to tell you more about the pumps. Lately, I find that mid-sized heels are ideal. I’m making an effort to dress up more often (why not?) but it’s impractical to wear high heels everywhere. Not at all judging anyone who can. I admire you greatly and wish that I could do the same. But I’m a giant wimp when it comes to feet pain. :( So, I love the idea of dressing up with smallish heels for day-to-day activities. If you feel the same way, you’re in luck. Going forward, I hope to show you the best mid-sized heels that I can find!

Retro in Gingham

My style has evolved so much since I started sharing it on this blog. One bit of surprise is how much I love incorporating retro elements. Normally, I wear gingham in a classic way but I was feeling retro when I took these photos. This dress is really sweet so I wanted to shake it up with cool sunglasses and a quirky bag. I’m sad to be hanging up my summer dresses for the season but I guess it’s time to move on with the year. On the subject of time, my son Lucas is 7 years old today. Seven years is a very long time to be going so quickly. But gone are the baby years and I have a little boy standing in front of me lately. I’m afraid that the next time I blink, I might have a teenager on my hands!
