Paper Bag Skirt

The blouse is oversized, the skirt is long and the shoes are outrageous. I like to channel a mood when I dress. I was thinking drapey and funky when I put these items together! As you know, I’m loving everything ruffled lately and this blouse is a pretty piece, especially for the price. I was on the hunt for a pair of paper bag pants when I found this paper bag skirt. The dramatic bow tie is a sweet feminine detail and the midi length (my favorite length) is super sophisticated. So, I could have worn a pair of pumps with this outfit and it would have made perfect sense. But I think that fashion becomes fun when you start to resist the obvious choices. And I am having so much fun in these frilly bow slides!

Love for Ruffles

Love for ruffles going strong! I can’t seem to resist the drama of a tiered ruffle skirt (another example here). The ruffles on this skirt are fluttery and fun and the bright white color is so fresh for spring and summer. I’m planning to wear it with graphic t-shirts and romantic blouses. For this look, I wanted to try it with a denim vest that I made by cutting off the sleeves of an old jacket that I hardly wore. (I’m a big fan of shopping my closet and repurposing old clothing!) A straw bag and wedges complete the look by creating a laid back vibe, which I think infuses the style we wear in Southern California all year long.

My boys are on spring break this week and we’re off to Disneyland for a few days of hot sun, Mickey love and thrills and spills (inevitable for very small boys in a very stimulating place!). Roller coasters and cotton candy, here we come!

I grew up believing the myth that Asians don’t look good in yellow. It was a bummer for me to avoid wearing this beautiful color. As an adult, I became more adventurous with my fashion choices. I started to experiment with yellow and what do you know! The right shade happens to look great against my skin tone (more examples here and here). The truth is, anyone can wear any color as long as it’s the right shade! I adore the mellow yellow of this dress from Adelyn Rae and the special details like the cold shoulders and tied up sleeves. It’s a lovely thing to wear on Easter Sunday.

Happy Easter everyone!

Puffed and Cropped

Heck yeah, puffed and cropped! This top is such a fun addition to my closet. I swore off crop tops forever when I left my twenties but since I started experimenting with high waisted skirts and pants, crop tops are no longer off limits. In fact, I find them desirable now that I wear mostly high waisted bottoms.

A high waisted midi or maxi skirt creates the illusion of longer legs. Since I’m petite at 5″3′, I take advantage of this trick very often (just picked up this skirt on sale!). Another trick for creating a longer silhouette is platform heels. They give a huge boost in height (and mood) while remaining very wearable. These gold sandals are fancy and fabulous and might be the perfect shoes for a night of dancing with my handsome hubby.

Shopbop Spring Sale Event

Marc Jacobs Lust Sandals

Shopbop is having a spring sale event! For 3 days only, everything is up to 25% off, including these platform sandals that are a current favorite (see last post). This sale is a good opportunity to pick up a few things to freshen up your closet. To give my closet new life for the spring and summer months, I like to focus on handbags, shoes and pretty dresses and tops. I’m featuring some of my favorites below!

I buy a new handbag to celebrate the start of every season. When spring rolls around, I look for straw totes, summery colors and bohemian vibes. A sale is a good excuse to try out a new trend like an architectural clutch, ring handle, circle shape or pom poms. It’s also a good time to pick up new gear for traveling, especially gear with a pretty palm print or aloha vibe.

Sandals, mules and espadrilles! I pick up a few pairs of these every spring to take me all the way to fall. Mules are my favorites shoes lately. They’re so stylish and easy to wear! I’m crushing on mules embellished with poms, jewels and a kitty cat face. For everyday, I love a chic knotted slide or small heels in yummy suede or daring silver.

When spring arrives, I’m happy to put away the coats and sweaters and start wearing pretty dresses and tops again! Like I said, a sale is a good excuse to try something new like one shoulder, cold shoulderruffles or bell sleeves. I’m also hoping to invest in a fancy dress that I can wear to dinner parties all summer. And another one with a lovely floral print for just lounging around under the sun.

Happy shopping loves!
