More designer sales and other temptations

Designer sales in anticipation of Thanksgiving weekend are going strong right now! My resistance has crumbled away completely. There are too many beautiful things to buy at tempting prices. And I really think the best sizes and colors are selling out quickly. In addition, some of my favorite stores have started their big sales early. Over the years, the trend has been to start before Thursday and extend until Monday. Sure enough, Shopbop, J. Crew and Madewell launched sales earlier this week. So far, I stocked up on cute shoes at Shopbop (tassels and sparkly booties), t-shirts at. J. Crew (chic and fun) and velvet at Madewell (choker tee, bodysuit and cami). Fall Designer Sales

Turkey day sales are around the corner but tons of great designer sales are already on, including my favorite Net-A-Porter! I’m trying really hard to wait for Black Friday but every time I get online, I crumble a little more. Prices might be lower in a few days but sizes and colors can sell out, especially on iconic styles like these bow sandals, sexy booties, the Faye and the Pierce. Whether you shop now or in a few days, this is a great time to splurge on those beautiful bags and shoes that you’ve been coveting all year.

Okay, Nordstrom Anniversary Sale time! To be honest, this sale is not the best when it comes to handbags and shoes (with the exception of boots) because the selection and brands are very limited. I love Saks Friends & Family, Barneys Purple Card and Shopbop events when it comes to splurgeworthy accessories. Still, the Nordstrom sale is a good opportunity to buy a few things to update your closet for fall. In my opinion, the sale shines when it comes to clothing, jewelry and boots. I browsed these categories in great detail yesterday and present my favorite sale picks below. Happy shopping everyone!


An easy way to update your closet for a new season is to invest in some tops that you can wear day-to-day. If you’re a working gal, this blouse is a standout with its beautiful details! It’s versatile to wear with all kinds of skirts and pants yet unique enough to justify the splurge. If you’re looking for something more casual, I love tops that are polished with fun details like a big knot or stripes and pleats. Ruffles have been a big trend all year and there are so many cute variations to try like short sleeves, long sleeves, casual buttondown and dressy buttondown. Since temperatures will drop, a sweater might be a good thing to pick up. Cut-out details make a basic sweater much more interesting and a cozy cashmere cardigan is a must have for fall!


I almost skipped browsing this category. I’m so glad I looked because there are so many beautiful everyday pieces that are on sale! Dainty earrings, statement earrings. Dainty necklace, statement necklace. Dainty bracelet, statement bracelet. There’s something for everyone! Even a sophisticated watch at a great price point.


We visited Croatia in late summer 2008 and unexpectedly encountered a cold front. In all of our Croatia photos, I am wearing the same black hoodie that I threw into my suitcase as an afterthought. Just in case. Ha! The learning lesson there is to buy cute jackets. Because when the weather is cold, that’s all you end up wearing. Trust me, my Croatia photos would have been much more stylish had I brought any of the jackets below!


I live in my boots in the fall and winter. So, my boot collection keeps growing because I need a pair for all occasions! Although suede is harder to keep clean, it’s my favorite for boots, especially in a yummy color like caramel or amaretto. A basic bootie looks sharp in a pointy toe. Even sharper in a fresh color like white. I’m a huge fan of over-the-knee boots! I have two high heel pairs that I adore and I’m planning to invest in a more practical heel to wear every day.


Holiday Gift Guide * Something Fun

From all my years of holiday gift giving, I’ve learned that the best gifts have an element of thoughtfulness that is fun! It’s also more enjoyable for me to look for these kinds of gifts. I’ve compiled a list of my favorites that will surely give your loved ones a sparkle of fun this holiday season.

For the glamour girl, this clutch and pair of earrings are the perfect set. I love this city guide and handy camping tool for the avid traveler. For that guy who appreciates good style, a bow tie and cufflinks are necessary accessories. Who doesn’t need a llama planter, winky pillow or donut snow tube in her life? And the “emergency” flask is simply a must-have!

Holiday Gift Guide * Beauty

I focus on fashion here but I happen to love beauty products too! And I think they make excellent gifts for the holidays. Gals might like the idea of changing up beauty habits for the new year and it’s fun to experiment with new colors in a beautiful palette of eyeshadow, lip glossnail polish or blush. For the beauty queen who travels a lot, this makeup kit has all the essentials to create a glamorous look.

As I approach my 39th birthday (later this month), I’ve been stepping up my skincare routine. My favorite products lately are this night treatment and this vitamin c serum, which I have recommended to all my friends! This mask is a luxurious treat and I am curious to try this one for purifying and this one for “beauty sleeping.” A good night cream (splurge/save) and a good eye cream (splurge/save) are things that every woman should have and as I grow older, a good lip treatment is an essential too.

I’ve always wanted big sexy hair. My curling iron is older than my first born son and I’m tempted to upgrade to this magic wand. Other beauty tools that I love are this blender sponge, a good makeup brush set and a cute clutch to store everything away.

I don’t get much down time as a mom but when I do, I love taking a sweet smelling bubble bath! The next best thing is a sweet smelling shower, which I also enjoy very much because it’s the only place in the house where I can truly be alone. :)
